It's no doubt that there have been some absolutely wonderful things about marijuana in the news lately. Maybe not the 10 PM news on TV, but your news feed on social media. That's where all of these wonderful stories come from, as in most places across the US, the use of marijuana is still taboo.
Today we just wanted to talk a little bit about some of these cases where medical marijuana overcame all of the negative stigma to help save a life. We've found 7 of our favorite stories, although there are just so many out there. It's a shame that the vast majority can't have access to this miracle plant.
Our first story is about a really old and frail little lady. 82 year old Mabel Macer was prescribed 17 different prescription pills to fight off pain. Her family members said she was so drugged up during that time that she couldn't walk to the the door, or make it to the bathroom. Now she takes a liquid version of marijuana, and instead of living like a zombie, she is back to tending her garden and walking around her neighborhood and the only pill she has to take is a heart pill. What's terrible is that her doctor after she admitted to smoking marijuana was going to refuse to continue treating her. That's like a mechanic refusing to help because you brought them a broken car!
Story number 2 is of a man named Alex Ure who was a paratrooper, and flying so high in the air brought so much pain on him it gave him a spinal condition, which made it impossible to get his wife pregnant from all of the painkillers. Cannabis eased the pain to the point where Ure didn't need a boatload of painkillers. He is now able to live a relatively normal life, and has conceived a son.
Story 3 is of a 2 year old child born with brain cancer. Cash Hyde was having a hellish exaggeration of the terrible twos. Brain tumor, chemotherapy, pain drug cocktails: chemo was working to kill the tumor, but the side effects were tortuous. According to reports,Cash hadn't eaten in 40 days, was frequently vomiting. Doctors gave approval for Cash to try medical marijuana. According to Cash's father, after introducing cannabis oil into his feeding tube, his son's symptoms were immediately lessened. Cash began eating food, again, and slowly weaned off the potent pain drug cocktail.
Story 4 is a story of ADHD, PTSD, OCD, ODD, IED, CD, Bi-polar disorder, all in one 7-year-old boy. According to the boy's mother his life was pretty much entirely therapy, medication, and institutionalization. When his mother got him a prescription for cannabis, there was a huge turnaround. The boy began eating again, and is balanced out now at age 8. Child Protective Services tried to take him away during this time, claiming that his mother was unfit because she gave him marijuana. Luckily the courts sided with her as she acted within California's medical laws.
Story 5 is about Matt Young, aged 28 who had severe MS symptoms and had been diagnosed since he was 14. Unable to pursue his career or care for his son, Matt went through a host of drugs trying to find relief. After he found marijuana he got better. Marijuana soothed his pain and he lives a more normal life. The prescription pills were just wrecking him.
Story 6 is of a man with Hepatitis C who was getting incredible discomfort from the Interferon treatments. He was nauseous, couldn't eat, full of pain, and had a constant swollen tongue. He lost his job and his mind began to slip: lots of pain and interferon can do that to a person. After consuming cannabis, Rodriguez stabilized. The nausea subsided, his mental problems diminished, and the pain was dulled. He resumed a somewhat functional life, one with actual enjoyment.
Last but not least is story number 7. Martin Martinez stacked his motorcycle and fractured his skull. This one's different. Doctors were perplexed by Martinez retaining almost all of his cognitive ability and suffering little cerebral damage despite breaking his head open. Study led researchers to conclude that a lifetime of chronic marijuana use protected Martinez' head. So, if you're a stoner and you ride a motorcycle, you've somehow hit the magic bullet of deathproof. Using THC, doctors have figured out a medicine that blocks brain injury after head damage. So, the science is there, they just need clinical studies to back it up, which is an absolute miracle.
Among these there are so many other stories about marijuana treating and curing certain types of cancer, both in adults and children, as well as a cleaner and more efficient medicine than prescription pill. It's honestly no wonder that so many people are still lobbying against marijuana. The doctors make money by keeping people sick.
